Date And Location: The Caley Marina Fours/Quads and Small Boats head will take place on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th November 2023. Racing will be held on the stretch of the Caledonian Canal between Dochgarroch to Torvean – see map.
Both short course (3750m) and long course (4500m) events are offered.
This event will include the second round of the Scottish Schools Rowing Council Junior Head Series.
Events and Running Order: The list of events can be found here. Individual events within each Division will be set off in this order.
The events that are included in the Junior Head Series are listed here.
Rules: The event will be held in accordance with the Scottish Rowing Rules of Racing and our local rules.
Fees: Entry fees (which include the Scottish Rowing levy and Scottish Canals event charges) are £10 per seat for senior crews and £8.50 per seat for junior crews. There is no charge for coxes. Junior crews racing in senior events are charged at the junior crew rate.
Prizes: Medals will be awarded in all events which attract more than one entrant.
The Head of the Caledonian Canal trophy will be awarded to the most successful club (based on a combination of points awarded for participation and performance).
Entries and Payment: Entries close at 11pm on Thursday 2nd November. No late entries will be accepted.
Entries must be submitted by a single club representative by email to fours@invernessrowing.uk using the spreadsheet that can be downloaded here.
All entry fees must be paid by bank transfer before 11pm on Sunday 5th November – bank details can be found in the entry spreadseet.
Substitutions and Refunds: All substitutions/scratches must be made online. Details will be emailed to the club representative who submits your club’s entry. This system will be open as soon as we publish the running order and will close 1 hour before the start of each division.
No refunds will be given after the running order is published.
Racing licences: Clubs are reminded of their responsibilty to ensure that all entrants have a valid racing licence at the time they submit their entries and should be aware that IRC may be required to provide this information to Scottish Rowing. Details on how to provide licence details are provided on the entry form.
Event Control Options: If entry numbers are significantly greater than previous events and/or if weather forecasts indicate that it is prudent to make changes then we shall review options to reduce waiting times at the start.
Options that may be considered include:-
1. Running the event (or some categories in each division) in the reverse direction from the boathouse to Dochgarroch (crews would be marshalled in the straight below the swing bridge);
2. Launching all fours/quads early, i.e. before the small boats; and
3. Shortening the course (e.g. at the “Pylons” for the short course events and at the first bend of the long course).
These changes may result in a slight amendment to the start time of the divisions but there will be no change to the usual launching times, i.e. in any event all crews wanting to row in Division 1 must be available to launch from 10:00 on Saturday and 09:30 on Sunday.
